Contagious Autism?

What if Autism is contagious, but not how we think of "contagious"?

If we define "contagion" simply as something that spreads, propagates, or infiltrates, then it's logical that if Autism is caused by unclean spirits like the Bible says, then that uncleanness could spread just like many things spread that the Old Testament called unclean.

"If a person touches any unclean thing... he also shall be unclean." (Leviticus 5:2)

There are a few real life examples that intrigue me:

The first example is a dad of a severely autistic boy. He had been married for years before his son was born, and although he had his quirks and his shortcomings, his wife describes him as fairly normal. But after his son began exhibiting autism "symptoms", so did the husband. His wife noticed that her husband's eye contact became little-to-none. He began to live in his own world more and more, stopped wanting to talk about things, and stopped noticing things around the house he used to notice. His wife told me it was "like he had died," with tears in her eyes. He has just explained it away, saying "I've come to realize some autistic traits in myself." But his wife remembers that he used to be different - for years and years.

Did living with a demon-possessed person affect him? Did the uncleanness "rub off" on him some how?

The second example is a mom of a severely autistic girl. She says she physicall feels tense, restless, and anxious when her daughter is in the room. When her daughter is out of the house she feels calm. She used to have so much self-control, but now she gets angry at everything. Her daughter also has seizures - a condition that very commonly coexists with autism, just like the mute boy in the Bible that Science today would call nonverbal: "Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid." (Mark 9:18). The mother has experienced a strange phenomenon, almost like an electric pulse or shock that goes through her body if she happens to be in physical contact with her daughter when a seizure happens. "It doesn't happen every time, but when the seizure is severe enough it's like electricity shoots through me if I happen to be touching her when she seizes up."

Is this unclean spirit affecting the mom?

If, in any other context, I quoted the saying you are the company you keep, no one would disagree with me. So why is it so hard to believe that people who hang around autistic spiritual uncleanness might find themselves affected in a similar way? Because we've been told that autism is not spiritual, and most of us believe it.

Perhaps this is what all disease is - some kind of spiritual uncleanness spreading, not germ spreading. But that is a controversy for another day.
